HANDICAPPING THE NOGA
We know that a lot of you are curious about your handicap in NOGA.Our handicap chairman is Herb Price. Herb took the place of Mike Rittler a couple of months ago. The handicaps presently are formulated the same as they were in the past. Also we have added the Equitable Stroke Control to your handicap. In a nutshell, Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is used to downward adjust individual hole scores to produce an "Adjusted Gross Score", which is then used for handicapping. In other words, a player's handicap is based on his "Adjusted Gross Score", not Gross\Actual score. ESC prescribes a maximum number of strokes that can be used for any hole. This maximum is based on the golfer's Course Handicap and is obtained from the table shown on the right. With this in mind, you may shoot a 96, but your score could be corrected for handicapping to a possible 93. Consequently your 96 would not be used in handicapping, but the 93 would be. Also if you have not played with us for over 6 months, your handicap will have to be re-established. Herb uses a computer in the compiling of the handicaps and he uses a method used by the majority of courses in America, which is a computerized program suitable for the NOGA. Keep in mind, that in the NOGA, the best four (4) scores of your last six (6) rounds are used to formulate your handicap. This handicap system is approved by the USGA. However, keep in mind that the USGA does not give an index when using custom handicap system, which NOGA uses in the 4 best of the last 6 rounds. An index by definition means you are using either the USGA or RCGA formulas to calculate handicaps.

ASSIGNING MEMBERS WHO ENTER AS THREESOMES
As you were notified in the past, assigning threesomes is the hardest part which we have as it creates difficulties. It is possible if you enter a tourney with a threesome, one of the members will possible be placed with another group to create a foursome. If we have enough singles which enter a tourney, we can place them with threesomes in order to make the necessary foursome for play. It is also easy to combine two twosomes in order to create the necessary foursome. However, without enough singles, threesomes create scheduling problems. Threesomes leaves us using a cart for only one person, and this does not sit well with the courses which we play. We get a break in the price we pay at the courses which we play, but when a cart is used for only one player, this creates a problem with the income at the course. So keep in mind, if your threesome is broken up, you have been fore warned.
